Notoriously the wettest county in Northern Ireland, Fermanagh is the place to see lush growths of epiphytic lichens and bryophytes, as on the great parkland trees of Florence Court or in the wonderful ashwoods of Marble Arch. The county is dominated by Lough Erne, and some of the most interesting sites of ancient and long-established woodland occur along the shores and on the islands, as at Crom, Castle Archdale, and Castle Caldwell.
