Executive urged to make woodland vision a reality

The Trust has called upon the Northern Ireland Executive to take urgent action for the future of woodland. The new document ‘A vision for woodland in Northern Ireland’ asks the Executive to afford absolute protection for ancient woodland – a precious and finite resource. Read the full news release here.

Northern Ireland's ancient woods must be protected, says Woodland Trust


Ancient woodland is much scarcer in Northern Ireland than the rest of the UK and still under significant threat, the Woodland Trust reveals. The Trust has launched the first ever inventory of ancient and long-established woodland for Northern Ireland and says that urgent action is now needed to protect these woods before it is too late. Forestry Strategy a "missed opportunity"


The Woodland Trust is concerned that the recently published Northern Ireland Forestry Strategy makes no mention of ancient or long-established woodland.
